On our way

Set off on our roadtrip. Hit traffic on M25, unsurprisingly. Moving along nicely now on the M1, with random patches of heavy rain despite it being a beautifully sunny day. Weird weather , weird country, and possibly a weird week ahead – I just have a feeling about it. Beer festival in Worcester on Friday… They DO have cider. That was vital in securing my attendance.

Took this photo on London Bridge last night, emailing it to Flickr/

Meditation, that’s what you need.

Whilst going for a random wander today, I went for a little stroll in Jubilee Gardens whilst Tom went to get something for my birthday tomorrow. I’ve always known Jubilee Gardens existed but never bothered to find the entrance. It’s actually situated on the roof of Canary Wharf tube station. It’s a pleasant enough spot, with the gentle sound of the fountains masking the sound of nearby traffic and the trees contrasting against the tallest skyscrapers in the UK adjacent to the park. If you look carefully in the first picture, you can see an interesting looking character meditating on a park bench. I’d just been thinking that I was the most relaxed person in the park, snapping away whilst lying on one of the other benches, before spotting him!

not quite the weekend I was hoping for

Well, things got a bit messy. After my blog yesterday, we went into Brighton itself for lunch. During lunch, the sun came out. So far, so good. Then we made our to Preston Park, where the main party itself is held, with a fun fair, market stalls, dance tents and more. En route, we bought some alcohol. Ok – a LOT of alcohol. I think I might have overdone it a bit. I don’t remember much of the park at all really. I went on the dodgems. We sat on the grass and had some vodka jellies. And then I ended up being taken back to the campsite before everyone else headed into town to go clubbing. Yup – I’m a bit of a wally. But hey-ho. Today was a bit more chilled. Went into town again, had lunch at Nando’s, drove back as Tom said HE was feeling rough. Here are a few more pics from the campsite this morning:

Arrived in soggy Brighton

We got here in one piece! One wet piece, but anyway. We’ve been quite lucky to have a space to pitch the tents – the wet weather doesn’t seem to have put many people off!

From the tent!

If you’ve arrived here from my latest YouTube vlog (see below), you will understand what I mean by saying that I’m typing this from inside my new Quickpitch tent.  I’ve bought it for this weekend – it’s Brighton Pride time again!  I’ve been to Brighton Pride for the last 3 years with various people, and every year it’s been great.  Basically, it’s a massive gay gathering in a city on the south coast, pretty close to London, that has a sizeable gay community anyway.  When you add a lot of the gay London community, plus those from even further afield, you have a very large event indeed.  I’m not one for shouting “GAY PRIDE!” – I don’t see the point, really.  There isn’t “Straight Pride”.  I’m not proud to be gay as such, like straight people aren’t proud to be straight. (Neither am I ashamed of it, I should point out!)  But it is great to have a massive gay party every year.  I only really go to the gathering in Preston Park – the parade doesn’t really appeal.  Tens of thousands of people go there, and the atmosphere is amazing.  The last 3 years have been hot and sunny, but it looks like the forecast this year is for rain.  Oh dear.  I’m sure I’ll still have fun.  Heck, it’s to celebrate my birthday as well.  I WILL have fun!

Not quite midweek updateness

The drive home was fine, if a little hot. Mine and Tom’s amazing pop-up easy-peasy tent has arrived in time for Brighton on Saturday; they sent the wrong inflatable bed – a single. However, we have also realised that a double will not fit inside anyway. It has to be two single sleeping bags and roll mats. So it looks like we’ll be going shopping for these later in the week. The weather forecast for Saturday isn’t that promising at present either. I’ve never been a massive fan of camping, and if things stay as they are, it looks like my beliefs will face little challenge.

I’m also looking very pale and white – methinks some fake tan may be in order…
